Philippe Lemaire, coller c’est rêver

At the same time writer, creator of magazines and bibliophile, Philippe Lemaire has been practicing the meticulous art of collage since the 1970s. He composes daily, from engravings of old magazines and illustrations from 19th century works. He cuts out, diverts and recomposes, letting himself be carried away by the reverie that the meeting of the taken elements provokes. Practicing collage opens up new poetic stories, offers entry to other worlds, through games of scales, comical, unexpected associations, with lively or grating humour. The exhibition presents a selection of collages composed from engravings by Gustave Doré.
